The High Sheriff

T.Michael O’Connor.  Our High Sheriff for reelection.  The same Sheriff from whom I received the recent invitation to serve.  I am sharing Charlie’s iPhone photo with you because I am favorably impressed by this political poster the likes of which I have never seen in my entire life.

Does he look tough enough?  I think so.

Is his poster slick and professional and very clever?  I think so.

Can I discern his political party affiliation?  I do not think so.

He is The People’s Sheriff in this poster.  He looks reminiscent of the legendary Texas Rangers.

He  just may win another term.

  1. We don’t vote for policemen in my country, or judges, or any other officers of the law, so I see such things from a very different perspective, and have to admit that there is something romantic about it… and it does seem to work in your country… But I can’t say I really understand it.

    • I don’t understand it either. That makes two of us. I find nothing romantic about our judicial system. There is a certain implied romanticism in this sheriff’s campaign poster. That’s what I found interesting about him.

  2. I was in your area recently but missed this poster – thanks for sharing it. Very clever! I recognized the O’Connor name. Would love to know what he is like in person but I can imagine as you see many like him in Texas. Let us know the outcome of the election.

  3. Could also sell men’s cologne or BBQ sauce – pretty much the same target audience.
Did check out the website. Among his accomplishments is “RUSTL’IN UP some Juriers for court duty, YEHAHH”. :).

    • Surely, you are teasing me. How awful. I am fearful to look. But, yes, you got the target audience down pat. And, they don’t know how condescending the pitch is. An absence of ego is not among this man’s problems….

      • Sorry, when I saw his list of “accomplishments” I couldn’t resist. Half expected him to claim he lassoed a tornado and cleaned up the Grand Canyon.
Can not fully blame him or others for the whole marketing campaign. It is a part of the political machinery . Here in Canada we do not elect every public official that has to tip their hat. It is a very surreal & ironic picture from my vantage point. I therefore enjoyed the post very much ! 🙂

  4. I actually went to the website (indicated on the poster) to look around. The site is designed in a fashion quite similar to the poster My favorite link was “Endorsements.”
(By the way, this is me, Lemony… I’m just coming in from my other blog, so my gravatar is different.)

      • Lemony, you are as flaky as I am. No, this gravatar hs looked different to me lately. Was it in black and white always? Oh, Lord. I have to check out the website for “endorsements”. I should have done that before I posted this thing. Actually, I wasn’t interested enough in T. Michael to look. 😉

    • Endorsements. Ha Ha…. This man has been married to an O’Connor woman for thirty years. Enough said. I wonder if he took HER name? I have to ask a friend here who would know. Now I know why he sits on so many boards. Wonder how he ever gets any work done? 😉 This really might be an interesting story….

      • My other blog is devoted to the cats in a special needs room at the animal shelter where I volunteer once a week. I post on Wednesdays there (and so was actually in that blog when I was writing; I’m a bit weirded out that WordPress knows enough about me to change my gravatar when I’m reading blogs that I follow under my other identity.) The blog address is “lemonysqueezes.wordpress.com”

        • I enquired once as to why I couldn’t have a different Gravatar for each of my blogs. WordPress said that I could but that each blog would have to have a different Email address because the Gravatar was linked to the Email address on the blog. I didn’t bother setting up other Email addresses, but if you really do want a different one for each blog, that would be the solution.

          • Thank you, Lady Marilyn Kay Dennis. I actually do have a separate gravatar (with the required different email address). It should show up, if you click on my gravatar, I think it takes you to my gravatar page which lists both of my blogs (I haven’t tested it lately, but I think it works). What I thought was strange, was that I was operating from my other blog, under my other gravatar, but somehow was automatically switched over to this current one, since it is under this identity that I follow George’s blog. By the way, I absolutely LOVE your gravatar!

            • Ah, well that doesn’t sound right to me. Something must have gone wrong somewhere. My Gravatar is from a post card sent by my great-uncle to my grandmother during the First World War. The card is now in a private museum in Belgium but I still have the photo of it. He bought it when he was on convalescent leave in Maesteg (Wales) where he and his soldier mate received a civic reception because he was the son of a Maesteg boy who left home at the age of seven as cabin boy on an English sailing ship, even though he didn’t speak a word of English. That boy eventually settled in Australia. The whole photo is on my first post on my main blog (December 2009) if you would like to see it. (My great-grandfather was running away from home because his mother had spanked him. She didn’t see him again until he was in his twenties.)

    • Can’t nobody accuse us of being unsophisticated in these parts, now can they? I absolutely love the sign. It’s posted all over town. I love it, too. I am still shaking my head every time I see that sign. It’s just too slick and clever and cool. I have to find out who designed it. I honestly do not know the man’s party affiliation. That’s what I thought was so clever about it…the implication that he is so well known party doesn’t matter. A real man of the people.

  5. Very mysterious and sexy…..I wonder who the real man is behind this gorgeous design. My imagination is running wild!

    • He is an O’Connor… The name is synonymous with “city fathers”, very old money, power, etc. He wears a waxed handlebar mustache, cowboy boots and hat and the whole nine yards. I don’t know one fact about the man. I don’t keep up with local politics, but I may vote for him on the strength of his campaign poster alone!

      • You will have to keep us “posted,” I sense an entertaining story brewing!

    • Any man who refers to himself as “T. Michael” is hardly a macho man. I suspect he’s a Texas Ranger wannabe. What do I know? Perhaps, a thin, brown cigarillo or whatever they’re called? Lord, I’m probably going to get arrested for slander next.

    • I swear I’m going to vote for the man on the basis of this poster alone. Any man who has the guts or the good sense to run outside a clear party affiliation has my vote. Either that or he’s a Democrat…lethal in this part of the world.

    • That’s precisely what interested me. His sign blows the others away. They’re all those same red/white/blue kinds of signs. Of course, the only sign you see in the line of signs is his. Very clever of somebody to design it.
