I just realised that there is a limited number of ‘Likes’ that can be viewed on my posts!

    Like

    • Yes. WP only shows the string that fits in the width of the column! So if somebody you know only “liked” and didn’t comment, you won’t know the person was there unless you expand the number of bloggers (as in where it says “71 bloggers”) then you can see the gravatars. I have no idea why they’d do that, but… πŸ™‚

      Like

      • Even the expanded numbers only show 9 columns of 10 each. If I get more than 90 visitors, they remain anonymous πŸ˜€

        Like

        • What? That’s ridiculous. I have had more than 90 once or twice, but I didn’t know. What do the WP editors say about that? Their aim is to help people attract visitors. Now you can’t SEE them. Figures… in this crazy universe. It is funny that I see you in my Reader, like, and go on planning to come back to spend time really looking at the photos and reading. However, I forget! I am just going to have to stop at Madhu and let the others go by! πŸ˜‰ You have always been kind to me, never forgotten me, and you fascinate me. The kind of woman I am going to be in my next life. Yes.

  2. Well that’s another fine mess. πŸ˜€ I was having problems loading images yesterday. Part way through my internet connection would disappear. It would quickly show up again and I would have to start the process over multiple times. Finally started working again for no reason or for some reason unknown. I briefly could not access your blogs – got a “oops, missing page” message. Glad you are back. πŸ™‚

I think the butterfly one is another kind of plant, actually. Kelli designed this stuff and used plants that I don’t know. It grows like Lantana. I will ask her if it is. Lantana grows all around my porch, but it grows much shorter than this one. This one gets too much water from the fountain next to it. I hit “post” before I intended to so the post isn’t exactly as I intended. Chuckle… Chuckle…

        • Yes, Pintas! Now I remember. Kelli tells me every time I ask her… πŸ˜‰ The other one is Lantana. I have bunches of it all around the garden. That pinta grows much taller there than anywhere else because of the constant water source from the fountain.

    • Hi, Edith. I saw your photo of the dog on Otto’s blog and realized that I had not seen your posts. I changed my preferences for notification on all of the blogs. I see you all the time visiting the blogs so I remember. Just don’t change your Gravatar! πŸ˜‰ I looked at the camera bags and realized that I never go far enough away from my house to need another one! Thanks for the links.

  8. I’ve had the feeling WP was trying to “send me a message” for some time now. πŸ˜‰ But, as for your not receiving new post notifications from other blogs, perhaps what happened to me and how I fixed it can help. I’m not a fan of the WP β€œReader” thing. I’m β€œold school” in that I prefer to get my new post notifications via email. But when I realized I hadn’t received one from any of the hundreds of WP blogs I subscribe to in days, even though visiting them on my own clearly showed that I was still β€œfollowing” them, I investigated further and eventually found the Edit Blogs I Follow page.
That page allows you to change the status and delivery frequency of email notifications individually for every blog you’re subscribed to. And, in my case, I discovered that they’d all been reset, somehow, to the β€œOff” status.

Considering how many there were, it took some doing to get them back the way I wanted. You might want to check there to see if that’s what happened to you. πŸ˜€

I saw your last post in my reader, but I stopped getting email notices for any blog posts because I get so much other inbox mail that it was a problem. I suppose I have to return to that method since it appears to be more reliable. I don’t post often anymore so you probably didn’t miss anything. Thanks again! πŸ™‚

He has pooped on my keyboard several times, but it isn’t a catastrophe. He really is cute when he hangs onto the bottom of the monitor to watch the lights change. I think that’s what he likes. Mostly, now he hangs out around my neck preening my hair and nibbling on my ears and earrings. I think he dozed there too. The Conures like to be ON their people. He is so tiny that I hardly notice him there. I am really enjoying him. Rita babysits him too. He cries if she goes out of the room with me. It’s funny. When are you coming to visit?

  16. George, I just checked my little list of followers and there you were … front and center. And, I do indeed receive notifications of your posts. I have, I think, encountered just the problem you are up against. Several of my followers have reported, after long absences, that they had stopped receiving notifications of my posts. These folks would click the ‘edit’ button in their reader to check to see if they were still following … and they would find that my Gravatar has disappeared! If you suspect that you have fallen off someone’s follow list … simply check … again, by clicking the ‘edit’ button on the right, while in your reader. That’ll give you the list of blogs that you follow. If some have disappeared, you’ll have to visit the site and sign on once more. Again, this has happened to several folks who follow Pairodox! WordPress must be leaky! D PS: Love the image of the Cheeky reader!

    • How did you check your list of followers? Where is the list? I am frustrated with WP’s help forum. The guy who answered the question should be fired. πŸ™‚ He referred me to the tutorials! aaauugh! Kenn Shapiro asked for help for me. That got nowhere. I have “edited” that crummy list of the blogs that I follow so many times it’s remarkable that WP’s entire system hasn’t crashed! I did find that I was no longer following Naomi Baltuk though. That was helpful to know. I just have to be more vigilant, I suppose, but since my memory took a sabbatical of indeterminate duration, I’m stuck! Thanks! Cheeky keeps me smiling throughout. He’s something of a little character.

      • Go to Manage my blogs (on the upper right, below your Gravatar … then Reader (on the upper left) … then the Edit button to the right of Blogs/Follow. That should give you a listing of those you follow. I’m not sure how someone with hundreds of followers could keep track of this … but I’ve only got a few and it’s pretty easy to see who has fallen off the wagon and who still remains. Don’t let the frustration get to you … CHARGE! If you have any other questions please send them along. No use going through life not knowing the answers to your questions. D

  17. I have been adding links to the “home” pages of blogs that I try to frequent and which I often miss in the reader. This way I can make rounds and check on folks without waiting for a new post through the reader–which sometimes behaves and sometimes does NOT. It does make for a long blogroll or link list –but, it solves the MIA problem.

    Like

    • Do you add the blogs to your blogroll yourself or allow WP to add them? I tried that, but I follow so many blogs that I just wanted to see in the reader and don’t often visit. When I chose to add the blogroll widget, it added a bunch of blogs that I don’t really follow closely and didn’t add most of the ones that I do follow. Thank you for that suggestion. I tried it, but stopped when that happened. I appreciate your suggestion. Let me know if you devised your own menu and added it as a widget or what you did? Thanks!

  21. Hi there George. I have noticed for some time that WP is not consistently showing the blogs I chose to follow. If I’m very interested in a blog, I ask for email notification. But even that is not completely consistent. Though I asked for email notification of likes, that has been discontinued for some time now, and so many times I’m unaware of someone who might have β€˜liked’ my posts, because I’m not interested in posting those likes publicly. It’s a bit of a problem, but not so terrible really, because we can always just record a bookmark for a blog we’re really interested in, and check it out from time to time on our own initiative. Could be that someone else will come up with better advice. Wishing you and your beautiful birds a very good day.

    • Yes, often I “like” your posts in the Reader. I wondered if you saw the likes there. And, I have found some very interesting blogs by visiting somebody who liked a post on my blog. Oh, well. We do the best we can, I suppose. I get so many emails that having the blog notices come to my mailbox is a problem, but I will have to do a better job of going through my inbox, I suppose. I am frightfully worried about our intervention in Syria because of the fallout for Israel. That is a much higher priority in my Worry Box than blog post notices at this point. Take care.

    • Thank you, Stephen. I came to your conclusion after a couple of days of fretting about it. I suppose I expected WP to keep up with my interests… That’s a bit unrealistic these days. I’m following quite a few people now, but I often dip into that list instead of using the reader, I can tell that I’m not seeing everything in the reader as some bloggers have posted into their blogs and I haven’t seen it in my reader. So I will continue to ‘mix and match’ my approach as time allows me.
