The Way of Seeing

Bud-Red

Charlie,

Look for what you know

And you will see what you expect to see.

Expect nothing

And you will discover the magic and the mystery of life.

  1. Wow, what a spectacular shot! The word that comes to mind for me is “craquant,” which is “crunchy” … (in French). The color of the bud is so sharp, I crack my teeth on it. 🙂 Really marvelous, George. I love the detail and composition.

  3. Don’t try and trick the boy, George. You just have to look carefully, to know what the subject is of that photo. That shot is either one huge lobster claw or a hood ornament from a classic Thorby-Nelson Roadster 1927. 😀

    • I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have lived to enjoy that child. As he makes his own way, I hope he stops to listen and to see. 🙂

      • I am editing at least two chapters a day and am almost finished. Once that is done, I send it off to a final editor. She will surely have me rewrite certain areas, but it’s getting close to public viewing, I assure you! Thanks for keeping me focused! 🙂

    • I remember that you enjoy the Amaryllis, too. So, you knew what it was. This one had four horizontal buds, but I recently had a pink one that had five and more than one stalk from the same bulb. I love those flowers. Thanks, Sylvia! 🙂

    • Ha-ha, Rob. I assume you discovered that it is an Amaryllis bud. This one had four horizontal buds. I chuckled at “a very red something”! It IS a very red something, all right. Thanks, Rob. 🙂

  5. Beautiful words, George! I was going to guess a tulip bud, but I see it’s none other than the She Devil. Gorgeous! Also, the photograph in your header is lovely. Is that your shadow?

        • Thanks, Elisa. The Amaryllis buds fascinate me. I photographed that one a ridiculous number of times trying to get what I saw! She Devil, you know… You are too kind, as always, Elisa. 🙂

    • Thanks, Jo Nell. I wonder if he’ll guess that it’s a bud from the Amaryllis that I called “She Devil Red” in an earlier post. Chuckle…

    • Thank you, Patti. That’s very kind of you. I’m a lucky Granny! This is one of the buds from the Amaryllis that I called She Devil Red in an earlier post. Thanks for stopping by.

    • It’s an Amaryllis bud. The stalks usually have four on each stalk. This one belonged to She-Devil Red. Chuckle…
      Thanks, Richard.

  6. As someone from Charlie’s generation would say …. “Totally.” Now, as to what you’ve photographed … at first I would have said ‘lobster claw,’ but the textures are throwing me off … if asked animal, vegetable, or mineral … I’d say vegetable, but nothing more. D
