Pink Lady

I picked up another Amaryllis at Walgreen Pharmacy early in June.

The foliage and the buds were pale with only a hint of pink.

I didn’t have much confidence that she’d turn out too well,

But the configuration of the plant was good.

At least, she wasn’t She-Devil Red…

It has two stalks and ten buds on one bulb!

The stalks are well-proportioned and sturdy

No, long, lanky stalks and leaves here.

I set it on the porch

And watched the blossoms open.

To my delight, the blossoms are lovely shades of pink on white.

It is a lovely Asiatic Amaryllis as the card on the plant said it would be.

The color of the pink and white blossoms deepens as the blossoms open.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Amaryllis with so many buds

Or one that is quite as compact as this one

And I did not have to wrestle with Old Faithful Lens to photograph her.

  6. George – keeping it quiet though it’s not a big big secret. My wife and I have split. I met a woman who was my third grade classmate who became my girlfriend and fiance 50 years later. We visited Elkins WV where I grew up and shared Thanksgiving with her mom now 102. I’m not talking about it ’cause the split is not legal yet. I hope you are ok. I hesitate to ask. Middle East – still. Thanks for being nosey and supportive.

  10. Every single image is a treat for the senses George. Have been travelling for most of Aug and Sept and am just about catching up on my blog reading. The food poisoning sounds nasty. Hope you are fully recovered from the concussion by now. Sending warm hugs 🙂

  13. What a fanfare of triumph, George! 🙂 It was our wedding anniversary in the week and a part of my bouquet were some spurs of pinkest pink gladioli. They really made me smile (and still do 🙂 )

    • Well, since the concussion, I have not managed to get back into the blog. I did see yours in the reader, though. Oddly, most of the people whom I knew don’t show up there anymore.     • I’m okay. Not about to die, I’m afraid. Strange. Chuckle… I was supposed to be dead already. My advice is not to pay too much attention to what doctors say… Glad you like the flower photos.

    • I don’t get around to WP much either, Elisa. I’m doing fine. Actually, I have virtually no symptoms of the tumor in my lung. Nobody seems to know why that is! Chuckle… I guess all a fellow needs is one good lung! 😉 Hope you’ve had a great summer. It’s so hot here that I sleep all day and roam around at night like a cat! Thanks for always stopping by!

      • I just saw that it was 11:30 and the first thought that came to my head was you, and whether you had started roaming about the house. You already know I’m a night owl too, but I’ve been trying to change my ways to get in sync with my early bird husband. I think I’m too old of a dog at this point to “adapt.” 🙂 That is good news, that you are showing no symptoms from the tumor, but I’m guessing that knowing that it’s there is something that makes you pause.   19. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that colour… how beautiful… By the way I’m going to the Kgalagadi at the end of this month with my new camera, can’t wait… my photos are going to be just so much better… keep watching.. not posting much at the moment but will after my return…

    • Thank you, Ute!! I really did enjoy this one. It’s the first Asiatic Lily for me. I like the way they grow so I will be looking for them again. My mother loved the lilies so I buy one or two each year when I see them. You can plant them in the garden or in pots and they live for years. Thank you for always stopping by to encourage me! 🙂

I remember something like that when I was a young man. And at the time, I thought I might die… but it didn’t occur to me to see a doctor… and as you can see, I made it through anyway.. Now I have different problems. Every stage and the problems that go with it… Wishing you better days, and much interest and pleasure in life.

    • Thanks, Shimon. I am well, thank goodness. I don’t have any other health problems, and the tumor in my right lung is not causing any problems for some strange reason. Who knows? The food poisoning was a sudden thing that went away immediately, but left a concussion that took a while to heal. It is so hot here that I mostly avoid the daytime heat and wander around at night, like a cat! Chuckle… Hope you are well. Thanks for stopping by!

    • Just don’t eat rotten deviled eggs. Kelli traced it easily to those deli eggs. Since my sense of taste and smell are bad now, I didn’t notice. As soon as she smelled the eggs, she knew. I guess I need a food tester! Chuckle… It’s some very strange and powerful bacteria. I causes sudden-onset nausea and causes the victim to lose consciousness. It happened to two of my young friends. So it wasn’t because I’m old or debilitated. The bacteria is short-lived, but it is some bad shit! Hope you never encounter it. I felt sudden nausea and leaned over the kitchen sink with saliva pouring from my mouth. The next thing I knew, I was lying in a pool of ice cold vomitus maximus on the slate floor in a dark kitchen with no concept of where I was. I finally figured it out and pushed myself into a sitting position. I knew there was no phone nearby so I had a chat with the old woman and convinced her to stand the hell up. Somehow, I did and staggered to the living room to a chair where there happened to be a phone lying on a table beside it. I called Kelli and that’s about the last thing I really recall except refusing a CT scan. Kelli feared a slow bleed since I seemed to get worse for a couple of days. I finally recovered. Thank goodness, but I have almost no memory of having slept for about two weeks! I still have trouble concentrating and doing much of anything that requires organizing my thoughts. That will improve. I’m supposed to be dead anyway, but I reckon you can’t kill me with a damn hammer! Chuckle…

        • I reckon so, Ashley. There is no other reason I’m still alive. I was complaining to Kelli just today about not being dead yet. She laughed and said she figured it was gonna’ take a long time to kill me! I’m bored with the whole damn thing! So, I’m giving up the dying posture and getting on with it! I don’t want to hear another damn word about it! Chuckle…

      • ….ohmyohmy, what a tale, and what a scare (not only to you, let me assure you). well, that convinces me to not go near any sunday school picnics in the near future (it’s been about 30 yrs since the last one, so no worries) or sample the next pot luck’s deviled eggs on display. you are one tough old cookie, george. thank god. beautiful photos. I have the christmas amaryllis in its pot submerged in the backyard near the house and it has sprouted new leaves. it works. but it will never give me that amount of buds–never. it is so good to hear your voice.

        • Lance, I am so sorry. I just noticed that I failed to hit “post” apparently since there is no reply here. I do not advise deviled eggs unless you make them yourself! Chuckle… I think your amaryllis gets too cold in the winter. If you have a garage or some protected place for it, it will do much better. Also, feed it well since the stems and blossoms depend on the bulb. I’m happy to see you back, Lance. I was worried for a long time. 🙂 Thanks for coming to visit!

    • It’s the light, Zeeb. That’s all. The porch in early morning and late afternoon has very good light for photos against the screen. The Asiatic Lily is beautiful anyway. Much prettier than most lilies. I didn’t know that until I bought this one at Walgreen, of all places! It was my first Asiatic Lily. I enjoyed it tremendously. I don’t have the energy to seek out photos now, so I am working on old ones too! 🙂 I had food poisoning and passed out suddenly and got a damn concussion that left my old brain mostly blank for a couple of weeks. I slept mostly and am finally recovering. I still have trouble concentrating to work on anything much. I’m supposed to be dead so I guess I’m lucky my old brain didn’t develop a hemorrhagic bleed. Since I got worse for a few days, Kelli feared that was what was happening, but I’m okay finally. The same thing happened to two young friends of mine. One poor guy was hit suddenly and passed out in the aisle of a store. He said when he came back around, some woman was just strolling by pushing her cart as if nothing were amiss. He supposed she thought he was drunk since he was also lying in a pool of vomitus maximus! Poor guy spent two hours in the bathroom trying to recover enough to drive home! It’s some odd bacteria that is short-lived, but causes loss of consciousness. Weird. I never had food poisoning in my life before this. I’m always so very delighted to see that wonderful Gravatar image! 🙂 Thanks, Zeeb!

      • oh my! you would have been right at home here in ecuador where a huge percentage of this town has had dengue or chikungunya or both. my 2nd go round with dengue brought complications similar to yours.. it was hard to think/read anything above a first-grade reading level, i was good for about two minutes standing and then i’d be dashing for the bed before fainting.. whew, i think sometimes our bodies want us to throw on the brakes, and if we don’t, well we’re forced to do it anyway!

        i’ve had food poisoning once thanks to airline food that kicked me down in guatemala.. yours sounds like a much-more severe round than what hit me.

    • It is an Asiatic Lily. Yes, Walgreens has them along with tulips in vases with the bulbs on holidays especially. They’re always at the checkout counter. And they are cheap. I think the most I ever paid for any of them was something like $12.00. This one was really pretty. 🙂
