  1. I cannot believe I missed George’s passing. I am so very sorry for your loss.

George was always very supportive and had a wonderful sense of humour. We passed comment on each other’s photos and I admired her positive and honest approach to her illness.

    Rest in peace George xo

  2. I know this is long overdue, but I want to say a few things about George.

I met George here on WordPress, and despite many family trips to San Antonio and her southernly hospitable invitations, my wife and I never got a chance to meet her for lunch on the River Walk. George and I spent a lot of time critiquing each other’s photographs and write-ups; that’s how we got to know each other, and a definite mutual respect was established. She would comment on my work, and offer remarkably insightful pointers; however, always with a kind preface or follow-up. I’ll give you a for instance:

From George, regarding a picture that I took among other things.

“The tiny bit of landscape here anchors the tank to place, and it’s very effective, but I want to see the image without it. Do you know what I mean? The image would be an entirely different one, I think. I keep placing my thumb to block it. I really think I’m probably mistaken about liking it suspended with no anchor to place. Dunno’
I am impressed by your processing in these images. You have an artist’s eye. You’re also a fascinating character. Such talent, such skill. Like you, I worked in two worlds and loved both.”

George left a many such comments offering the darnedest, simplest, and most helpful pointers on my work, but unfortunately she insisted that I not post many of those comments to my blog. Perhaps she believed that such critiques posted just below the picture itself would detract from the picture, who knows, but she absolutely insisted that most of those critiques not be posted to my comments section. There are a few awesome people who I feel like truly helped me along the way to becoming “good” at what I do, and George was certainly among those few.

I hadn’t heard from George since some time in late 2013, and I hate that we lost touch, but I’m very pleased to have met her and very pleased to have heard a little about her story.

Thanks, George! And thanks to whoever posted this.

  3. Oh my goodness. I never heard of George’s passing. I was away from blogging for a long time and so might have missed it. I am ever so sorry to hear of her death. It seems so unreal. George was so lovely, honest and embracing in her comments on my blog. Her encouraging words pushed me on to eventually come out with my first poetry collection. I’m ever so grateful to her. May her soul continue to rest in the bosom of our Lord.

  4. Oh, I have had you on my mind and knew there was a reason… I am so sad yet know you are now free. My heart is with your family, with Charlie and others, I’m sure. I would have loved to have met you in the flesh, dear lady, you meant the world to me thru this strange medium. Tonight the light seems a little dimmer knowing you are no longer on the other side of my screen…. With much love to you, George. You will not be forgotten.

  5. Bless you sweet lady…thank you for your magic, passion and support. Your spirit has helped me grow. You had wanted me to share the image of the empty chair, in the field with the sun’s rays shining in from the side….I think your lovely portrait will suffice.

  6. Such an honour to have shared a small portion of her life and art through this medium of blogging. My wife and I have been thinking of her. May her spirit soar in love and laughter. We will hold her memory close. Till we meet in Xanadu to share tales and take pictures.

  7. Dear George was one of my favourite bloggers. I used to lap up her wonderful photos which were truly ‘out of this world’. I loved her sense of humour too, and often had a chuckle when reading her posts. I was so sorry to learn that she was ill and often wondered how she was doing. Lots of love and hugs to you her family and also to her friends who must all miss her so terribly much. RIP dear George ❤ Sylvia

  8. I am sad to learn that George has left this earth. Her photos were, and remain, a delight. She left many comments on my blog, especially early on when I was just finding my way. Since she told us of her illness, I often wondered how she was faring… Condolences to her family…

  10. George has been on my mind and I often wondered how she was doing. Knowing she was ill and her blog was so quiet worried me. Thank you for the update – but such sad news. George’s posts were a lovely reminder of home when I was living abroad. I never really liked flower photography until I found her blog – I thought her photos were so beautiful and interesting and her stories hilarious – as others have said – such a wonderful sense of humor. There are many things I admired about her even though I didn’t know her. Sending much love to her family – she will be greatly missed!

Oh my dear George, I am so sad, and can’t believe this too… You are here, always, always… Do you know, last week I thought of you and I told myself why you were in silence… I decided to write you when I came back from my Baku travel. But now…. You are one of my beautiful yes so beautiful blogger friend, I don’t remember how long it has been that we met. 13. I cannot believe that my favorite person on WordPress has passed away.George was the first person to follow my blog (which was at that time an utterly silly teenager’s writing place).I think everyone here can understand the thrill of receiving the first compliments on your work and she gave me that happiness with her words of encouragement.

  14. George was a rare, no nonsense, women of character. I was appreciative of her attention and of her wisdom. I laughed with her at life and at the silly things people do. It was a pleasure to know her, I only wish I had gotten to know her sooner and that I had known her longer. I will miss her.

    • You and your wife (Joanna??) were among her very favorite friends. My sister had so much fun…and such rewards from doing her blog and regularly hearing from folks like you. I often asked her about you and what she had heard. It sounded so idyllic to have a sheep farm in Pennsylvania after an academic career….You’ll have to overlook my mistakes in career and place; I just know how important you were to her and I was also intrigued by your responses. I hope things are going well for you and that you’re happy with whatever you’re doing. I wish I had known you too!!!

      • Hi (I’m sorry I don’t know your name). Thanks for taking the time to respond. I’m glad you did because I’m pleased to know that George enjoyed our correspondence, I know I did. I believe I have written before that I have never felt that I was much good at providing comfort to the recently bereaved. So, let me simply say that I believe I have been fortunate to know George. I respected her … she was strong, outspoken, honest, and bright. She and Joanna would have gotten along well. She was a bit of a philosopher too, you know. And I always appreciated her good advise … which was that I should try and stop worrying so much. We were all fortunate to have known her. D

        • Thank you! I’m Linda Zealy, George Ann’s sister. I actually felt that I knew you and Joanna from reading your responses to George Ann’s posts. I can assure you that your natural, chatty responses were just what she liked. I often urged her to consider coming up there to get to meet you but it wasn’t her style to do that, unfortunately. You all sound so really neat; I wish I could meet you too.

  15. Linda, thank you so much for giving us one last time to comment on her blog. She and I were close in age and lived about 80 miles from each other although we never met other than through our blogs and Facebook. George was so open to all and opened her heart and life to us all. When she was told the cancer was terminal, she created a new blog called, “On the Way to the Crematorium” and thought it would be funny. None of her followers thought her dying was funny so she abandoned it. My thoughts are with you and the rest of the family but George would not want you to be sad. We shall miss her! Cheers, dear George!!!!!!.

  16. Linda, I’m very sad to hear this news, tho I’d wondered if it was in the offing. I loved George as a person, we were in touch a lot, and I positively gloried in the words, attitudes to life and images on her blog – it was like no other blog I know, it was vivid and felt so very much alive. I sent her a book of my images, in which I tried to give some idea of how much others thought of her – I hope Charlie will find this. So, yes, RIP dear George – you live on in the warm thoughts of so many others. Adrian

  17. Every time I see her photo and the reminder that she has died the tears just flood back in. I loved George and while I never met her in person, I did have a couple of Skypes with her.
Thank you so much for letting us know.

  18. George: I only knew you through our blogs. You were gracious and funny. You struggled to make your photography better. You had hilarious antics with the parrots. You actually purchased a photo from my blog. You insisted to pay even though I offered you the file for free. Your purchase was my first sale and to be honest I have only sold two. I regret not having insisted that you take it as a gift. So, like everyone else here, you have touched me. I know that recently you were not well, but in blogging, one does not see suffering or illness, so I chose to believe that everyone lives forever. And in your own way George, your blog will linger. And though memory fades, things like this left behind are a legacy. They say that images out in cyberspace never go away. So you will be with us for a long long time. Thank you Linda. The news of George is indeed sad.

  20. Oh this is the saddest news I’ve received in a long time…. I never met George face to face yet thru our blogs and FB we became good friends… me here in South Africa, many miles away from her, how I would have loved to meet her face to face… she loved my photography and even bought me a camera and sent it to me, I will never forget her words when I told her I couldn’t accept her gift…. “it’s a cheap camera, I’m not buying you a farm”… it might have been a cheap camera to her but it was a gift I treasure and will forever… George rest in peace and every photo I take is in your honour and dedicated to you…. go well and may your family that stays behind be blessed and rest knowing you are up there looking down on us all and smiling….

    • Blessings and peace to you Linda. My heart hurts hearing this sad news. As u know, she was such a blessing to all that knew her. She was so very special to me and helped me so much. I’m glad I got to talk to her a few days ago. I’ve been unable to drive due to a concussion and couldn’t go visit her. Was just thinking today that I need to make some potato broth and take it to her, hoping she could drink it. I will miss her dearly, but was blessed to have known and visited with her all these years. God bless her soul. I’m happy for her that she’s not suffering anymore. She loved all of you very much!
